EU Mandates Increased Airline Ticket Price Transparency; Ryanair Expresses Outrage

July 10, 2026Pablo Navarro1 мин

The European Parliament is moving forward with measures designed to make it more challenging for low-cost airlines to offer tickets that do not include a standard carry-on bag. While these tickets will still be available, the default displayed option will now be a ticket that includes a carry-on bag.

Passengers will then have the ability to remove the bag if it's not needed to secure a lower price, or to add extra services if they are willing to pay more. Additionally, the new regulations stipulate that all passengers will be permitted to bring one free carry-on bag measuring 40 x 30 x 15 centimeters. Passengers are also entitled to compensation ranging from 300 to 600 euros for delays of at least three hours, and correcting a spelling error on a ticket will no longer incur a fee.

Furthermore, certain rules will ensure that children can sit with their accompanying adult and that airlines cannot cancel return flights if the outbound journey is missed (while it may be possible to take a later flight, this often results in losing the right to the booked return flight).

However, not everyone is pleased with these developments. Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has already vocally expressed his strong objections.
