Golf Legend Tiger Woods, 50, Returns to Competition After More Than a Year
Golf legend Tiger Woods, 50, is making his first competitive appearance in 13 months today. He is still recovering from multiple surgeries he has undergone in recent years, a total of seven. The most recent was a lumbar disc replacement in his back in October 2023. In March 2024, he also suffered an Achilles tendon rupture.
Woods is set to participate in the TGL (The Golf League) finale on Tuesday night. He will be playing for Jupiter Links Golf Club, a club where he has been coaching in recent weeks. Woods will step in for Kevin Kisner in Match 2 of the final against Los Angeles Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. As Los Angeles won the first match in the best-of-three series, it falls to Woods to level the final and force a decisive match, which will also be played today.
Woods' last competitive golf appearance was at the TGL in February 2024, and his last PGA Tour appearance was at the British Open in July 2024. Throughout his illustrious career, Woods has claimed 15 major championships, 82 PGA Tour titles, and spent an incredible 683 weeks as the world's number one golfer. His last major championship victory was in 2019. Despite suffering severe leg injuries in a car accident in 2021 and taking increasingly long breaks from the sport, Woods has not yet announced his retirement.
