Intervention Conjointe des États-Unis et du Japon pour Stabiliser le Yen
Les États-Unis et le Japon ont uni leurs forces dans une intervention coordonnée visant à stopper la dépréciation du yen japonais. La monnaie nationale du Japon avait récemment atteint son point le plus bas en quatre décennies, marquant ainsi la première action de ce type depuis 2011, lorsque les deux nations avaient collaboré après le séisme et le tsunami dévastateurs qui avaient frappé le Japon.
Le ministère des Finances japonais et le Secrétaire américain au Trésor, Scott Bessent, ont officiellement reconnu cette intervention. Ils ont également affirmé leur engagement à poursuivre cette coopération pour freiner toute nouvelle chute du yen. Selon des informations rapportées par la BBC, les États-Unis auraient acquis entre 5 et 10 milliards de dollars de yens afin de prévenir une vente massive de la devise.
"Les États-Unis ont consenti à participer à cette intervention concertée car elle sert leurs intérêts nationaux en offrant des bénéfices potentiels importants à un coût modéré. Bien que le montant effectif de l'intervention ne soit pas particulièrement conséquent, le signal de vigilance prolongée qu'elle envoie sera efficace pour décourager les spéculateurs", a commenté Shigeto Nagai, responsable de l'économie japonaise chez Oxford Economics.
L'économie du Japon traverse une période difficile, influencée par des facteurs tels que la diminution de sa population active, une faible productivité et sa dépendance aux importations d'énergie facturées en dollars américains. La faiblesse historique du yen s'explique notamment par les taux d'intérêt extrêmement bas maintenus par sa banque centrale.
