Israel Backs Trump's Iran Ceasefire, Excludes Lebanon Operations
Israel has formally approved the two-week ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Iran, a proposal put forth by Donald Trump. However, the nation has made it clear that this pause will not encompass its military operations within Lebanon.
According to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office, Israel's support for the American initiative is contingent upon specific conditions. These include Tehran reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz and ceasing all attacks targeting the United States, Israel, and their regional allies.
While endorsing the ceasefire with Iran, Israel affirmed its intention to proceed with its military campaign in Lebanon. The conflict there intensified significantly after Hezbollah initiated attacks in solidarity with Iran, leading to a substantial Israeli counter-response.
The hostilities in Lebanon have already resulted in numerous casualties and widespread displacement of the population. Concurrently, Iran announced on Wednesday that negotiations with the United States are scheduled to commence on Friday, April 10, in Islamabad.
