Joe Abercrombie Selects a 'The First Law' Character for 'The Devils' Team
Joe Abercrombie has carved out a reputation as an author adept at making deeply flawed characters incredibly compelling. The Bloody-Nine, a twisted murderer, eventually becomes a fan favorite by the end of 'The First Law' series. Sand dan Glokta, a torturer, garners sympathy despite his ruthless methods.
In his latest work, Abercrombie has gathered some of the most villainous characters imaginable to create a fantasy equivalent of *The Suicide Squad* in *The Devils*. A werewolf, a vampire, a self-centered mage – the whole crew is present. But if a crossover between Abercrombie's famous works were ever to occur, one can't help but wonder which character from *The First Law* he would add to the team for *The Devils*.
"Frankly, there are many morally grey characters in *The First Law* that I think would fit in perfectly. But you still need that little supernatural edge to make it work with *The Devils*," Abercrombie confessed during the Celsius 232 fair. "I think a character like Shenkt, who is mysterious and has a penchant for human flesh, could fit well into this team."
Casamir dan Shenkt is the most feared assassin in the *The First Law* universe. Appearing in the standalone novel *Best Served Cold* and Abercrombie's first two *Age of Madness* trilogy books, he derives his superhuman speed and strength from the flesh he consumes and is a former apprentice to the most powerful sorcerer in the world. He's not someone you'd want to get on the wrong side of, but perhaps someone who could be useful in a team of villains working for the Church.
