Jürgen Klopp Dismisses Real Madrid Links: "It's Nonsense, They Haven't Called Once"
Former German coach Jürgen Klopp has emphatically dismissed persistent rumors linking him to the Real Madrid managerial position next season, branding them "absurd." "They haven't called once, not a single time," he stated during a presentation for MagentaTV, a German television platform.
Klopp, who served as Liverpool's head coach from 2015 to 2024, recently accepted a role as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH. However, further speculation suggests he is not entirely content in this new position and harbors a desire to return to coaching – a notion the German did not outright deny.
"For now, I'm not thinking about it; thankfully, there's no reason to," Klopp explained. "For my age, I'm quite advanced in life, but as a coach, I'm not completely finished. I haven't reached retirement age yet. Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But nothing is planned."
He reiterated his strong denial regarding Real Madrid: "If Real Madrid had called, we would have already heard about it. But it's nonsense. They haven't called once, not a single time. My agent is here; you can ask him. They haven't called him either."
Spanish local media have reported that Real Madrid still intends to replace Álvaro Arbeloa at the end of the season, with Klopp reportedly being the preferred choice. However, the club is also said to be considering other options, including Mauricio Pochettino.
