Mahershala Ali a officiellement tourné la page sur Blade
Cela fait plus de sept ans que Mahershala Ali a annoncé son arrivée dans l'univers cinématographique Marvel (MCU) en incarnant le célèbre Daywalker, Blade. Malgré cette annonce marquante lors d'un événement Marvel au SDCC, la seule apparition en direct de Blade jusqu'à présent a été celle de Wesley Snipes, reprenant son rôle emblématique des films des années 2000.
Bien que Blade ait fait une apparition animée dans "Marvel Zombies", ressemblant fortement à Ali, il semble que l'acteur n'incarnera jamais le personnage à l'écran. Dans une récente interview accordée à GQ, Ali a indiqué qu'il avait tourné la page avec Marvel pour le moment. "S'ils avaient voulu le faire, on l'aurait fait", a-t-il déclaré, suggérant que la décision ne lui appartenait pas.
Depuis le départ du réalisateur initial du film "Blade" du MCU en 2022, le projet a semblé stagner. Ali a exprimé son inconfort face à la tournure des événements, déclarant : "Je n'étais pas très à l'aise avec la façon dont les choses se sont terminées [avec 'Blade'] ; j'aime aller jusqu'au bout". Malgré cela, Ali a eu l'occasion de collaborer à nouveau avec l'ancien réalisateur de Blade, Bassam Tariq, sur un nouveau film intitulé "Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother".
Ali a révélé avoir suivi un entraînement physique intensif pendant une longue période pour se préparer au rôle de Blade, un effort qui semble avoir été vain. "J'ai tourné la page… Je vais bien… Tu m'avais sous contrat… S'ils avaient voulu faire le film, on l'aurait fait. Donc on ne fait pas le film… C'est eux qui n'ont pas voulu le faire, c'est à eux de répondre à cette question", a-t-il affirmé.
Il semblerait donc que si Marvel souhaite ramener Blade sur grand écran à l'avenir, ils devront trouver un autre acteur pour ce rôle.
