This monumental sum positions Ohtani's off-field earnings as one of the highest ever for an active athlete, trailing only Conor McGregor's 2021 figures.
Ohtani's off-field income alone exceeds six times the combined total of the next highest-paid players in MLB. Notably, the top six players on this list are concentrated among the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and New York Mets, underscoring the wealth disparity among franchises.
The substantial increase in top players' earnings has led some team owners to advocate for a salary cap. However, this proposal has been met with staunch opposition from players, raising the specter of a strike.
