Nintendo Reportedly Cuts Switch 2 Production by Over 30% Amid Slowing Sales
The Nintendo Switch 2, initially hailed as a phenomenal success with over 17 million units sold and the title of the fastest-selling console in the company's history, appears to be experiencing a slowdown.
Nine months after its launch, reports indicate that Nintendo has revised down its production targets for the coming months. The current plan is said to have been adjusted from 6 million to 4 million units for the next quarter and beyond, representing a decrease of over 30%.
While it shouldn't be difficult to get your hands on a Switch 2, this reduction could signal the end of the initial launch fervor. Economic factors, including the potential increase in gaming hardware costs and consumer reluctance to spend $450 on a new console, particularly in the United States where sales have reportedly been lower than anticipated, are contributing to this shift.
Despite these adjustments, it's important to note that the Switch 2 has already surpassed its predecessor in a comparable timeframe. Therefore, there's no immediate cause for concern for the console or the company. However, Nintendo may need to put forth more promotional efforts to maintain the Switch 2's appeal in the future.
