No Sequel Planned for Disney+'s 'Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice', Director Explains Why
If you've checked Disney+ recently, you might have noticed a new original film added to the streaming platform as part of its Hulu inclusion. This is a comedy titled Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, a time-travel movie centered around gangsters attempting to prevent a dark future by stopping a 'whacking.'
Starring James Marsden, Eiza Gonzalez, and two iterations of Vince Vaughn, if you've recently watched the film, you might be wondering if a sequel is in the works. If so, we have some unfortunate news to share.
The director, BenDavid Grabinski, addressed the conversation about a potential sequel, noting that he never had plans for a follow-up film and that it was made to be 'self-contained.'
"For me, it has to be self-contained, and I just... I poured everything into making the film I wanted to make, and it did what I wanted it to do. I might wake up in six months and have a revelation about what I want to do, but I just felt that if, from a creative perspective, I thought about a sequel, it would discredit what happens," Grabinski stated.
He continued, "I understand someone might misinterpret the ending as potentially being a cliffhanger, but I don't think it is. I think you see everything you need to see to know that in one way or another, Mike is going to make things right. And you don't need to see him make things right or know how he does it. You just need to know that Nick did a big thing for Mike, and now Mike is going to do a big thing for Nick, and that's kind of the emotional closure of the film."
Grabinski clarified that "if I woke up one day and had an idea that I really liked, I could see something like that happening," but he also emphasized that nothing is actively in preparation.
So, fans hoping for more adventures from the time-traveling gangsters of Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice will likely have to be content with the standalone story.
