Palworld Surpasses 40 Million Players Ahead of Full Release

July 9, 2026Pablo Navarro2 мин

Palworld has demonstrated the strong demand for a Pokémon-like experience outside of Game Freak's offerings, a fact highlighted at the start of 2024. Since then, the game has garnered increasing attention, leading its developer, Pocketpair, to announce that Palworld now boasts over 40 million players, just days before its official 1.0 launch.

Remarkably, the game has achieved this milestone while still in its early access phase. The full release is scheduled for later this week. In anticipation, a new video showcases the significant updates introduced to Palworld so far. From "Sakurajima" and "Home Sweet Home" to many other additions, the game has seen the integration of numerous new "Pals," expanded regions, and a wealth of features enriching the Palworld universe as it approaches its 1.0 version.

The figure of 40 million players does not precisely equate to 40 million copies sold, given its availability on platforms like Game Pass. Nevertheless, it represents a monumental achievement for any game, particularly for Pocketpair, a studio that was not widely known before Palworld's release. The game's success was largely driven by its unique concept of armed Pokémon.

While this distinctive concept may have led to legal challenges with The Pokémon Company and Nintendo, the ongoing legal proceedings suggest that Nintendo may not be able to monopolize the monster-fighting game genre. Thus far, the platform owner has reportedly only recouped $30,000 from this situation.

Palworld Surpasses 40 Million Players Ahead of Full Release - English Translation

Palworld has proven how much people desired a Pokémon-style experience not originating from Game Freak, right from the beginning of 2024. Since then, the game has continuously attracted more and more attention, to the point where, just days before its release, developer Pocketpair reveals that Palworld already has over 40 million players.

And yet, the game isn't even at version 1.0 yet. The full launch is scheduled for later this week, but in the meantime, a new video presents all the major updates we've seen in Palworld so far. From Sakurajima to Home Sweet Home and far beyond, we've seen plenty of new "Pals" added, new regions, and even more features enriching the world of Palworld before its transition to version 1.0.

40 million players doesn't precisely correspond to 40 million copies sold, as the game is available on Game Pass, for example, but it remains a monstrous achievement for any game. Especially when considering that Pocketpair was not very well-known before the release of Palworld, and the game simply attracted attention thanks to its concept of armed Pokémon.

This concept may have brought Pocketpair some legal trouble with The Pokémon Company and Nintendo, but as the lawsuit progresses, it appears that Nintendo cannot monopolize monster combat games, leaving the platform owner with only $30,000 collected from this whole affair.
