English Translation:
Peter Serafinowicz: His Surprising Role in Elden Ring and the Soulsborne Saga
While the Souls series games may not be for everyone, those who get hooked often do so for life, drawn in by their deep and rich universes, infuriatingly difficult combat, and addictive nature. Actor Peter Serafinowicz found himself addicted to FromSoftware's RPGs right from the very first Dark Souls, to the point of sending a message to the company behind the game to see if he could get involved.
In an excerpt from Russel Howard's "Five Brilliant Things" podcast, Serafinowicz stated that he contacted the "software company" behind the game; it's unclear whether he approached Bandai Namco or FromSoftware directly. Regardless of who he spoke to, it worked, as he managed to secure a key role in Dark Souls 2, and in all subsequent games (with the exception of Sekiro, it seems).
Serafinowicz is the voice actor behind all the male character death screams in the Soulsborne games. So, if you're about to throw your controller at the wall after losing to Malenia again, think of Brian Butterfield enduring all those agonizing deaths on your behalf.
Serafinowicz also has a role in the upcoming Elden Ring film, which he landed through a chance encounter with director Alex Garland. The writer and director of Elden Ring was apparently aware of Serafinowicz's passion for Dark Souls, but before they had a chance to discuss it further, Garland had to step away for a meeting. At the reception, Serafinowicz left a note with his number and managed to discuss it further to secure the role.
The Elden Ring film is scheduled for a March 2028 release.
