Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Get Pricier, But Offer More Customization and Features
The latest generation of Meta's smart glasses has arrived, bringing enhanced personalization, particularly for the many users who require prescription lenses.
EssilorLuxottica, the parent company behind Meta and Ray-Ban, has unveiled two new frame designs: the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics. These models start at $499 per pair. It's important to note that this initial price does not cover prescription lenses, which can easily add an extra $200 to $300 or more to the total cost.
According to EssilorLuxottica, both new styles feature slightly thinner frames, interchangeable nose pads, and adjustable temple tips, designed to provide wearers with a more comfortable and secure fit. As their "Optics" designation implies, these new frame styles are also compatible with a broader array of prescription lens types, including progressive and transition lenses.
The Blayzer-style frames present a squarer aesthetic, while the Scriber-style frames offer a slightly more rounded look. Both designs are available in a variety of colors, including several translucent options. They are currently available for pre-order on Meta's website and will officially go on sale starting April 14.
Among the new functionalities introduced are enhanced translation support for Japanese, Mandarin, and Arabic. Furthermore, Meta AI now includes food and nutrition tracking capabilities. Meta AI can also intelligently summarize longer message threads, moving beyond simply reciting extended chat histories.
