Saber Interactive CEO: "It's a Good Time for Video Games" Amidst Industry Turmoil
The current state of the video game industry can easily lead to a sense of pessimism. With thousands of layoffs, the potential end of physical PlayStation games, and seemingly endless development cycles for anticipated sequels, it's understandable to feel discouraged.
However, Saber Interactive CEO Tim Willits remains optimistic. His company is experiencing high demand for intellectual property licenses, fueled by the success of "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II." But Willits's positive outlook extends beyond his own company, believing there are broader reasons for optimism in the industry.
"I truly believe this is a good time for video games. It's been tough for some, but if you look at the showcases and some of the announcements, there are some really excellent products," Willits told The Game Business.
He added, "And creatives will always find a way to create something amazing, and those games will get discovered and people will enjoy them. The video game industry has had its ups and downs. I’ve been around forever. You’ve been around forever. And really great entertainment will always win."
While it might seem counterintuitive to hear such positive sentiments about gaming in the current climate, Willits, as he points out, is an industry veteran. He has witnessed significant shifts in the sector before and views the current period as another phase of substantial change and activity.
