Spider-Man: Brand New Day Achieves Second Highest All-Time Opening Weekend
There's been a lot of recent discussion regarding the future of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, as portrayed by Tom Holland. While the actor has expressed great enthusiasm for returning to the role, he had previously hinted at his departure. However, evidence suggests that Marvel Studios might not be letting the British actor go anytime soon.
The opening weekend for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has just concluded, and the film's global box office figures have been tallied, revealing a truly astonishing result. According to Box Office Mojo, the film's worldwide total has surpassed $927 million. To put this into perspective, this performance has earned it the second-highest opening weekend of all time, trailing only behind Avengers: Endgame.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already become the fourth highest-grossing film of the year, outperforming Oppenheimer but falling behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Barbie, and Top Gun: Maverick. With only $150 million needed to reach the top spot at the box office, this milestone is expected to be achieved shortly. The crucial question now is whether the film can maintain its momentum in the long run. To become the biggest Spider-Man film to date, it will need to generate an additional $1 billion to surpass Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed $1.921 billion.
As for Oppenheimer, it appears Christopher Nolan's latest epic is also on track to cross the $1 billion mark, having already exceeded $911 million and poised to become another major cinematic success of 2026.
