Take-Two CEO Explains Why Grand Theft Auto VI Pre-Order Numbers Haven't Been Revealed Yet
During Take-Two's latest financial earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the absence of pre-order figures for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. Despite significant public interest and early pre-orders following the release of just two trailers, Zelnick stated that the company is not yet ready to disclose these numbers.
When questioned by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, Zelnick explained that the company is hesitant to release the pre-order data because they are unsure how to interpret it. "The huge demand we've seen in pre-orders so far could reflect anticipation of sales that would have occurred in due course anyway," Zelnick commented. He further elaborated that "raw numbers can potentially be misleading" due to the influence they might have on subsequent sales figures.
Essentially, Take-Two's strategy is to avoid revealing pre-order numbers at this time to prevent them from impacting future sales performance. Releasing these figures could potentially create the impression that the initial launch demand was less impactful if a large portion of sales have already been secured through pre-orders.
Regardless, the gaming community can likely anticipate a period of relative quiet regarding GTA news, at least until Rockstar provides a more comprehensive look at the game in the coming weeks.
