English Translation
A few months ago, Rebel Wolves announced that The Blood of Dawnwalker was just the prelude to a larger saga, capable of transcending eras and universes. A sequel is currently in development, moving away from the medieval universe of the first installment for a resolutely modern setting. This new direction, suggesting an exploration of different time periods in the vein of a franchise like Assassin's Creed, was recently detailed by Jakub Szamałek, the game's narrative director and co-founder of Rebel Wolves.
In an interview, Szamałek expressed his enthusiasm for the saga concept, highlighting the rarity of video game narratives that form a coherent whole and lead to an overall conclusion. He explained his desire to follow the evolution of the main character, Coen, through his experiences and discoveries, having him travel through various universes while exploring his identity and transformation. The idea is to carry over the player's choices throughout the episodes, creating unique narrative branches and rewarding players' loyalty to the series.
"So we have a lot of plans in mind and we really hope to make this series a kind of epic saga that isn't limited by genre definitions. Dark fantasy is great, and that's what Dawnwalker 1 is, but in the future, we might explore other horizons. By keeping our creative desires at the forefront, we want to do things that excite us, that are original and motivating, but also in the players' interest. We want to keep surprising them and offering them the best possible experience."
When asked about the possibility of venturing into science fiction, given the desire not to be "limited by genre definitions," Szamałek confirmed: "Nothing is ruled out for now, so this is just the first chapter of what I hope will be a very, very long and exciting saga that will mature with the players."
This opens the door to Dawnwalker games set in space or cyberpunk metropolises. In the meantime, players can discover The Blood of Dawnwalker, scheduled for release on September 3rd for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
