The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Now Playable in Your Browser
Following in the footsteps of Doom, the beloved RPG The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is now finding its way onto various unexpected platforms. You can now play Bethesda's classic adventure, which transports you to the lands of the Dunmer, directly within your web browser. A creative Reddit user has successfully managed to run the entire game without any need for installation.
As reported by Eurogamer, Reddit user Dumpster_Buddy explained their achievement of porting the OpenMW engine – an open-source engine that allows Morrowind to run – to WebAssembly. This means you can simply open a browser tab and start playing Morrowind. No installation, no launchers, just a click and you'll find yourself in Seyda Neen. You can save your progress, play with a controller, and enjoy the game just as if it were running on Steam or GOG.
While we say "no installation," that might be slightly misleading. You still require the Morrowind game files on your computer to play it through the browser. However, if you had these files on a USB drive, you could carry the entirety of Morrowind with you anywhere, ready to be launched from any PC you can plug your drive into. There's even a mod available, which you can discover here, featuring a small example world, perhaps the perfect distraction for a lunch break.
