Donald Trump has unveiled plans for an expansive underground military complex situated beneath a newly proposed White House ballroom. He characterized this facility as a highly secure, drone-resistant installation.
As part of a redesigned East Wing, the project is set to feature a bunker-like structure, which Trump described as having "high-grade bulletproof glass" and defenses against aerial threats. Construction is reportedly already underway and, according to the president, is ahead of schedule.
The ballroom project's budget has reportedly escalated from an initial $200 million to $400 million, with funding contributions from Trump himself and private donors. This new venue is designed to accommodate up to 1,000 guests, significantly exceeding the current capacity of the East Room.
Trump justified the expansion by citing long-standing space constraints for official events and visiting dignitaries. However, the project's ambitious scale and design have drawn criticism, with opponents expressing concerns that it could compromise the historical integrity of the White House.
Despite the ongoing controversy, the administration anticipates the project's completion before the conclusion of Trump's presidential term.
