Zach Cregger Prepares for Fan Scrutiny Over Resident Evil Film Adaptation
Director Zach Cregger faces immense anticipation for his upcoming Resident Evil adaptation, a franchise well-known for its widely varied cinematic ventures. Given the track record, even a moderately good film could surpass many of its predecessors.
However, adapting a video game carries unique challenges, particularly regarding its faithfulness to the original source material and its established universe. Cregger appears acutely aware of this burden.
In a recent interview, Cregger candidly stated that he expects to be "crucified" by fans if his film deviates too significantly from the established lore of the games. While his project is an original story set within the Resident Evil world—and notably excludes fan-favorite characters—Cregger assures that it will still embody the core formula of the games.
"I love the idea of being up against a world that's just trying to wipe you out," Cregger shared. "It's just fun, and I haven't seen a movie that offers that kind of experience."
Cregger's personal passion for video games is evident; he admits that when watching adaptations, his internal reaction is often, "Don't mess this up for me." This deep understanding and respect for the source material hopefully signals an epic horror film when his Resident Evil project makes its debut.
