Zinedine Zidane Confirmed as New France Manager After Years of Waiting
Zinedine Zidane has officially been named the new manager of the French national team, as announced by the French Football Federation during a press conference on Tuesday morning. This appointment comes as no surprise, as it was widely anticipated that he would take over the role following Didier Deschamps' retirement. Zidane himself revealed that he had turned down numerous coaching offers over the past four to five years, as his sole focus was on leading the French squad.
"For four or five years, I've received proposals to coach a club, and I've refused them all to coach the French national team. This is the only thing I wanted to do," Zidane stated. "I've known this since I was a child; I started in the youth teams, and I've progressed through all the ranks to reach the senior national team."
He further expressed his immense pride and joy, adding, "I've often said it: there's nothing greater than the French national team. So, it's a joy, and of course, an immense pride to become the manager of this French national team." Zidane has reportedly signed a contract that will extend through the qualification period for the 2030 World Cup.
Reports suggest that Zidane will assemble a 25-person staff of top specialists and will earn €300,000 per year, according to AS. This marks his first managerial position since concluding his second tenure at Real Madrid in 2021. Real Madrid was the only club he had previously managed. As a player, Zidane was a World Cup winner and a Ballon d'Or recipient in 1998.
