Zinedine Zidane Officially Appointed as France's New Head Coach After Years of Waiting
Zinedine Zidane has been officially confirmed as the new head coach of the French national team, as announced by the French Football Federation during a press conference on Tuesday morning. This appointment was widely anticipated, as Zidane had reportedly been waiting for Didier Deschamps' departure and had turned down other offers. He explained his long-held ambition:
"For four or five years, I received offers to coach clubs, and I turned them all down to coach the French national team. This is the only thing I wanted to do. I've known this since I was a child; I started with the youth teams, and I climbed through all the ranks to reach the senior French team," Zidane stated. "I've often said that there's nothing greater than the French national team. Therefore, it's a joy and, of course, a great source of pride to become the coach of this French team," he added, signing a contract that will extend through the 2030 World Cup qualifiers.
According to reports from AS, Zidane is expected to assemble a staff of 25 top specialists and will earn €300,000 per year. This marks his first coaching role since concluding his second tenure at Real Madrid in 2021, the only club he has previously managed. Zidane himself was a World Cup winner and a Ballon d'Or recipient in 1998.
