Lamine Yamal is set to lead FC Barcelona tonight in their quest for a monumental comeback against Atlético Madrid, aiming to secure a spot in the Champions League semi-finals. During a press conference, Yamal expressed his strong belief in the possibility of a turnaround and even challenged Atlético manager Cholo Simeone to a one-on-one duel with one of his players.
Just 24 hours before the crucial match, scheduled for Tuesday evening (9:00 PM CEST, 8:00 PM BST), Yamal updated his Instagram profile picture. With over 40 million followers, he chose an image of LeBron James seemingly “sleeping” on the NBA trophy he won in 2016.
This image holds significant meaning. Ten years ago, LeBron guided the Cleveland Cavaliers to an extraordinary comeback in the NBA Finals, famously overcoming a 3-1 deficit to win the series 4-3. They became the first team in NBA history to achieve such a feat in a best-of-seven playoff series. James delivered stellar performances, scoring 41 points in both Game 5 and Game 6 of that memorable series.
“LeBron is one of the role models who can inspire me for tomorrow’s game, and that’s why I included him. I will reflect on how he approached it, and I hope I can do the same,” Lamine stated.
The 18-year-old, who surprised the media by wearing glasses, emphasized that the focus should not solely be on him. “I play for Barcelona; there are quality players, there are veterans… I don’t think it’s all about me. We have many leaders in the squad. I consider myself one of them, but I am not the only one.”
Can Barcelona overcome a two-goal deficit against Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid?
