When Capcom officially unveiled the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, many other developers followed suit, announcing similar launch windows for their own titles. The period between late August and early November is now heavily congested with major releases. September, in particular, is shaping up to be a focal point, especially its latter half, with several significant games slated to launch. These include Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, Minecraft Dungeons II, Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush, and, of course, Onimusha.
With such a dense concentration of titles within a short timeframe, it’s evident that publishers and developers have caught each other off guard by choosing this period for their game launches. This sentiment was echoed by Capcom in an interview with VGC, where Akihito Kadowaki, the producer of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, stated that they were “quite surprised” by the exceptionally busy September release period.
“We were quite surprised. We probably expected there to be many titles during this period, but we were still surprised to see just how many there were.”
However, this hasn’t diminished Capcom’s confidence in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Kadowaki also remarked, “We believe our main character, Musashi, is a key selling point, as is the satisfaction derived from the combat itself. The Issen system, parries, and all these elements come together to offer a truly unique and original experience, so we are not worried.”
