Prime Video appears to have discovered another hit to solidify its position as a leading streaming platform. Joining the ranks of successful shows like ‘Fallout,’ ‘The Boys,’ and ‘Invincible’ is the new series ‘Young Sherlock.’ This production, spearheaded by Guy Ritchie, delves into a younger iteration of the iconic character created for literature by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a character previously brought to the screen by Ritchie with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role.
According to reports, Prime Video has given the go-ahead for a second season of the series. In its initial four weeks of availability, since its premiere on March 4th, ‘Young Sherlock’ has successfully landed in the top 10 of the platform’s all-time best debut performances.
The streaming service has announced that ‘Young Sherlock’ has been viewed by at least 45 million individuals this month. Notably, approximately 60% of its viewership originated from outside the United States, with significant contributions from the United Kingdom, Germany, and India. Domestically, an estimated 648 million minutes of the series have been streamed, also securing a high ranking within the platform’s historical viewership charts.
“‘Young Sherlock’ possesses that unique magic: millions of fans across the globe aren’t just watching a detective story; they’re falling in love with the origins of an icon,” stated Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios. “Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have struck the right balance, making Sherlock’s early years fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, while presenting a compelling vision of James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take us in season two.”
Guy Ritchie, who helmed the initial two episodes of the series, is set to return to direct the first episode of the upcoming second season. It is highly anticipated that Hero Fiennes Tiffin will reprise his role as the young Sherlock Holmes, and Dónal Finn will return as James Moriarty. The cast also includes Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth.
