Negotiations between the United States and Iran aimed at resolving their ongoing conflict may recommence in the coming days, according to US President Donald Trump. This statement comes even as Washington maintains its blockade on Iranian ports.
“You should stay there, really, because something might happen in the next couple of days, and we are more inclined to go for it,” Trump was quoted as saying in an interview with the New York Post.
Officials from both nations, alongside regional intermediaries, have indicated that delegations might return to Pakistan later this week. This suggests that diplomatic channels remain open despite a recent military escalation.
The previous round of negotiations faltered due to disagreements concerning Iran’s nuclear program. Both sides remain at odds regarding the duration and scope of any potential suspension of enrichment activities, as well as the verification mechanisms.
Oil markets have reacted to the prospect of renewed talks, with prices falling back below $100 per barrel. This follows earlier volatility driven by concerns over potential prolonged disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
